Your guide to shopping for the best mattress for you
Better Sleep Council recommendations
According to the Better Sleep Council, how long a mattress lasts depends on several factors, including the amount of use and original quality. But the council generally recommends, for the best comfort and support, you should consider replacing your mattress every five to seven years.
Here are some other determining factors:
- You wake up with aches and pains that dissipate throughout the day
- Your mattress is seven years or older
- You wake up with stiffness, numbness, aches and pains
- You had a better night’s sleep somewhere other than your own bed (such as a hotel or friend’s guest room)
- Your mattress shows signs of overuse (it sags, has lumps, etc.)
- You roll toward the middle of the bed
Understand, your body changes over time. Every few years, it’s a good idea to compare the mattress and foundation you are sleeping on to newer models’ years.

Choose your comfort, style and size
A mattress with the right comfort and support ensures you get the great night’s sleep you deserve. Generally, you have three options with innerspring products: firm, plush or pillow top.
Besides innerspring products, latex and Tempur® foam mattresses also provide exceptional support and a completely pressureless sleeping surface. Texas Bed Company features one of the largest selection of latex foam mattresses in Southeast Texas.
Mattress Types

Memory Foam
Memory Foam is designed to contour to your individual body shape while providing superior pressure relief, helping reduce pain, and improving your overall sleep quality. Memory Foam is also known to provide excellent support and spinal alignment. We carry a variety of these specialty mattresses that accommodate any budget.

Innerspring
Innerspring mattresses are the most common and most historically proven mattress construction. This design offers increased mobility and breathability. The popularity of this design means plenty of options to fit any budget.

Gel Memory Foam
Hybrid mattresses are a combination of innerspring with specialty foam that gives you a best of both worlds. Hybrids provide you with the pressure relief and durability of specialty foams, while still maintaining the mobility and breathability of innerspring mattresses. Like memory foam and innerspring mattress, there a many options for hybrids to accommodate your budget.

Latex
Latex mattresses are known to be some of the most durable in the industry. These mattresses give a weightless or buoyant feel that provides premium pressure relief. This option is also one of the best at breathability.

When should you buy a new mattress?
Since you have so many different bed choices, we have compiled a few helpful tips to ensure you get that great night’s sleep you deserve. If you aren’t sleeping well, your mattress could be the problem. To determine if it’s time to replace your current mattress set, consider factors such as its support, comfort and overall condition.
All foam beds are not created equal
If you feel a foam bed is the right choice for you, remember that the most important components are the density and cell structure of the foam. All Tempur-Pedic® and Serta iComfort products use open cell high-density memory foams.
Open-celled foams naturally breathe well, unlike most knockoff brands. Beware of purchasing low-grade memory foam mattresses that are vacuum packed in a box when delivered to your home.
Competitor brands also tend not to “breathe” or dissipate body heat as well. Although Tempur-Pedic® and iComfort products are not right for everyone, when it comes to comfort and durability, these brands are considered the industry standard.
Foam mattresses are one of the best options for adjustable bases. Be sure to ask a member of our Dream Team to show you the benefits of adjustable beds.

FAQs
The average person spends one third of his or her life in bed. That averages out to over 120 days in just one year. A good night’s sleep is essential to your health and overall well-being. Lack of quality sleep or poor sleeping habits can affect your blood pressure, mental acuity and even your immune system.
The National Sleep Foundation recommends that you replace your mattress every 8 years. Not only will your mattress start to lose its support and comfort, but the accumulation of dead skin cells and sweat create a breeding ground for dust mites. Also, numerous other allergens can build up in your mattress during this time.
Unfortunately, there isn’t a single mattress or brand that fits everyone’s personal needs. We carry a very large selection of the top brands in the industry. Our philosophy is that choosing a mattress brand depends on your personal needs and there is not a “best” mattress brand that meets the needs of every individual.
A knowledgeable, helpful salesperson can navigate the maze of mattresses so you can make the correct purchase and find the mattress suited specifically to you.
